Although every plan is slightly different, most dental insurance providers follow what\u2019s known as the \u201c100-80-50\u201d coverage model, which includes: &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>100% of Preventive Care \u2013 <\/strong>Routine dental exams, cleanings, and fluoride treatment.<\/li><li><strong>80% of Basic Procedures \u2013 <\/strong>Dental fillings, simple extractions, and root canals.<\/li><li><strong>50% of Major Procedures \u2013<\/strong> Crowns, bridges, and dentures.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most dental insurance plans cover up to two routine checkups per year. So, if you have not seen your dentist in the past six months, don\u2019t wait to schedule your next dental exam and cleaning. It likely won\u2019t cost you a penny!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Does Dental Insurance Not Cover?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many patients are surprised to learn that dental insurance usually does not cover cosmetic dental procedures. This includes professional teeth whitening, veneer treatment, cosmetic bonding, and more. Cosmetic treatments help enhance the appearance of a person\u2019s smile but are not considered \u201cmedically necessary\u201d by insurance providers. Whether you have $5 or $500 left on your annual maximum, if it\u2019s not used by the end of the year, it instantly goes back to the insurance company and the amount is reset. New premiums, deductibles, and benefits are often applied at the beginning of the year.
